Seed sold in quantities of 20 and 50. Seed is double dormant.

American bladdernut (Staphylea trifolia) seed is double dormant, meaning it requires stratification in cycles of cold>warm>cold>and finally warm again, with germination. If you sow outdoors in the first spring after stratifying in the fridge, this translates as germination in the second Spring after sowing. Having said all this, the key points are: keep an eye on the seed beds, and be patient.

American bladdernut is a stoloniferous (though mostly clumping) shrub that dwells in a diversity of habitats within its range, though here it is found most often in floodplain habitats and other ecologies of moisture and fertility. Stunning flowers.

Seeds are a highly nutritious edible for all beings dwelling on the landscape. High oil content. Many have compared the flavor to macadamia nuts.
