Seed is sold in quantities of 25 and 100. Seed requires scarification followed by a period of 60 days cold stratification. Some seed may germinate in cold stratification: keep an eye on it, and plant promptly if germination occurs.

An amazing native pollinator plant with incredible growth and flowering, even in areas of part shade. Root has a long history of medicinal use. High-fat seeds available in early fall are very attractive to birds

Aside from this, I am exploring its potential as a wild food plant. It is in the same genus as the edible yacon, Smallanthus sonchifolius, whose root is traditionally eaten in the Andes.
