bur oak (#1)
Seedling trees, bare root, 1 year old. In general, two seedlings of the same species recommended for good acorn production. Wind-pollinated.
Native to much of the eastern US, bur oaks produce the largest acorns of any species found in the states.
These particular trees were grown from seed of 2 particular mother trees selected for their production of acorns weighing between 25 to 40 grams!
The acorns of the bur oak are also incredibly low in tannins, making them more palatable and nutritious for wildlife and livestock, and less work on the processing end for human consumption.
Trees have been known to produce in as little as 8 years if grown in the open, with access to full sun and a nutritious soil.
