devil's walking stick - root cuttings (#3)
Orders come as 4 or 12 root cuttings.
Devils’s walking stick, aka Angelica tree, serves as a wild food (young terminal shoots) and medicine native to much of the eastern US. It also provides food for pollinators (nectar) and other wildlife (fruits). It is a prickly plant, and can spread rather rapidly under the right conditions. This is a great candidate for the homestead hedgerow.
To encourage root formation on root cuttings: Let the cut ends form a callous (optional in my experience). Then plant them laying horizontally, covered with one to two inches of moist sand in the dormant season. Keep moist. Shoots should emerge in the Spring. Success rate is great.
