from $12.00
seed quantity:

Seed available in quantities of 20, 50, and 100. Cold stratify 90 days. Fall sowing recommended for best results.

Nyssa ogeche, Ogeechee lime, hardy to zone 7

A tupelo species with a limited native range in the swamp-lands of the deep south. Amazingly sour, edible fruits. Prized by beekeepers for what is known as ‘tupelo honey’. Flood tolerant.

Some info online suggests a 3 month warm period before a 3 month cold period of stratification. This has not been my experience. My experience has been that a period of cold stratification of 90 days is sufficient, though I have seen increased rates of germination when seed is sown outdoors in the fall and allowed to experience a fluctuation in temperatures.

As such, I recommend fall sowing of seed, a quarter inch deep, with a light mulch. Emergence in spring.
