oilnut hickory (bitternut hickory)

More commonly known as bitternut hickory, I call this tree oilnut hickory. I feel this name better represents what it offers to the world as its gift.
And so oilnut hickory, Carya cordiformis, is the hickory species with the highest oil content of any hickory - at least in the eastern US. Reports have been made stating that the oil content of the nuts can reach 80%. That is pretty amazing.

It is an eastern US native species that can grow in a wide-range of soil-types and conditions, yet thrives in lowland areas, river banks, moist mountain valleys, that sort of thing.
