shagbark hickory (#1)
Seedling trees of named cultivars. It requires at least two trees for cross-pollination. Hickories are wind-pollinated.
While nuts of the shagbark are among the smallest of the hickories, they are also known for being the most flavorful. They are also known for having a thinner shell than other hickories of the eastern US, with the exception of the bitternut hickory. Seedling trees are grown from mother trees that are named cultivars.
