Sweet flag rhizomes are sold in bundles of 3

A well-known species in herbal medicine, sweet flag is an aquatic plant native to Asia. Sweet flag grows best in wet soil to shallow water up to 9 inches deep.

I enjoy chewing dried slices of root for the (subtle) energizing and (even subtler) psychoactive properties.

Due to sweet flag having an invasive status in some states in the northeastern US, we recommend that folks grow sweet flag in a container or contained pond. We have grown it that way for years and it thrives.

This species variant is sterile and will not produce seed, though it will spread readily by rhizome.

Species name: Acorus calamus var. calamus
